Hello all my wonderful friends!
Embracing the Journey: Living with Vision Loss
Brooke also wanted to know how I felt knowing a time would come when I would be completely blind. So now I'm going to show my age. I grew up with a Scottish mother and an Italian father, so there was no therapist, no drugs, and no whining about anything. We were raised with a "shut up, stiffen up, and carry on" mentality.
Facing the Reality
In my opinion, it's something you can't completely deal with; it just happens. It's not something I can change. And that's really what you have to learn to deal with. I spent a lot of time talking with Elli and Vi, and that's when I started my wish list. Now, I know I won't live forever or see forever. Like everyone, I have an expected date that nobody knows when it will happen. But at least I can tell when I'll lose my sight.
The Daily Struggle
What I mean is, of course, there are days when my eyes are tired. When I rest my eyes and open them again, nothing has changed. Then there are days when they are tired, but when I open them again, everything looks a little hazier. I look at everyday things differently now. I notice how green the grass is and how blue the sky is. I also cherish the funny faces my dogs make and, of course, the double rainbows.
Finding Joy in the Little Things
It's the little things that bring me joy. Each day is a new adventure, and I try to embrace it. I remind myself that even though my vision may fade, my spirit remains bright. I focus on what I can see and appreciate the beauty around me.
Building a Supportive Community
I believe in the power of community. Sharing our experiences can help us feel less alone. It's important to connect with others who understand what we're going through. We can learn from each other and support one another on this journey.
A Wish List for the Future
Creating a wish list has been a therapeutic process for me. It helps me focus on what truly matters. Whether it's visiting a new place, trying a new activity, or simply spending time with loved ones, I want to make the most of my time.
The Importance of Awareness
Raising awareness about vision loss is crucial. It helps others understand our experiences and fosters empathy. I hope to inspire others to see the world through a different lens.
Conclusion
So, as I navigate this journey, I remind myself to embrace each moment. Life is full of surprises, and I want to savor every one of them. Bye for now!
